Hello everybody,

after request here is the only flying Saab 29 Tunnan in the world!
She is now operated by the Swedish Air Force Historic Flight, and attends regularly the various airshows in Europe :D

The next task of the SwAF-HF, is to make 2x Saab 37 Viggen again airworthy!!!

The pictures are taken last year, the day before the airshow in Rygge, Norway:

Fantaaaastic!!! It seems that the Sweedish A.F. has budget... sadly here we have plenty of potential air worthy classics... but they will rott due lack of budget even to keep first line fighters operational... that Saab remember me the first soviet jet powered fighters. what a cutie!

Hi Rodolfo,

from what I have heard from a Swedish friend, the Swedish Air Force has no large budget for the Historic Flight.
But, they have think of a other clever method:

The planes are maintaned from retired ex-Air Force personal. The Air Force let them use, the infastruktur, like hangars, special tools, etc. Also, not all, but most of the SwAF-HF planes, are operated on the military register not civil. That´s save them every year, a great amount of money!

Maybe, a idea for your country?

Thanks friend for this pics, this a nice plane, I remember a Mesherstmith Luftwafe IIGM, has the original configuration of "Tonel", this airplane was not operated, but was the father of the J-29 and Soviet fighter Rodolfo´s reference.

Yes, you are right.

Messerschmit developed in 1945 the P.1101 (http://www.luft46.com/mess/mep1101.html).

Many German technicians, after the war, found new jobs at Saab. So, they helped to develop the J29! It was a great aircraft for the Swedish Air Force! The first true jet fighter they had (if you don´t count the J21 with jet engine). In Austria, they flow until 1973, I think!

I like the SAAB Tunan. I have one in 1/72 scale that is asking to be put together. Sadly, I have no time at this moment for such a project.
The SAAB Tunan was the only plane who was at war with the Swedishs, during a mission supporting United Nations Forces somewhere in Africa.

The Focke Wulf TA-183 also looks like the SAAB Tunan.

Yes, the Focke-Wulf was planned, according to the same specifications as the Messerschmitt. I think, there must be also a Blohm & Voß design very simmilar to the other two.

The Saab J29 fought with the Swedish UN-troops in Zaire, in the 60es.

The Bell X-5 was developed directly from the Messerschmitt P.1101. After WWII, the US brought the prototype of the Messerschmitt in the USA, and developed the X-5!
