Hi, first, I don´t know if it is allowed to show pictures of foreign airforces in this forum. If not, please delete the post! If yes, sit back and enjoy the pictures ![]() Airshows have a short tradition in Greece. The first Archangell was 2005, and 2008 was the second one. The third should be this year, but under the current economic situation, most probably it will be cancelled ... And then, of course, you have every year in November during the celebration of the patrons of the HAF, 4-5 open days on all airbases, where they will be a small static (5-10 planes). If you are lucky and go during the week, you will see a lot, and I mean a lot, of flying. Taking pictures of the planes, is absolutely no problem during this days!!! Regarding now the Archangell airshows, I would like to show you a few pictures of the 2008 edition. The airshow was 3 days long in September, with great weather. All in all, 15 countries were there and presented planes and helicopters! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I don't recognize the aircraft in the second photo... it kinda looks like Aermacchi types right? It's really lovely to see Phantoms, Corsairs and C-47's fully operational... |

I am very glad that you liked the pictures! The 3 planes in the second picture, are T-2E Buckeyes. They are training aircrafts, but can aslo be used armed. Greece was beside Venezuela, the only other user of this great plane. If I am correct, Venezuela and the USA don´t use them anymore, so Greece is the only coountry in the world, where you can see a 60es/70es USN aircraft carrier group ![]() The T-2 will be replaced in the next 5 years most probably with the Aermacchi M-346. The Dakota, is the only one still active in the HAF. It is now part of the Historic Flight, but is regularly use for normal transport duties. The F-4E are upgraded with new radar and weapons and will soldier on, at least until 2015-18. The recce Phantoms will be replaced in the next years, by F-16´s with recce pods ... ![]() The A-7 are the last ones active in the world. They will be replaced either by F-16´s or Eurofighter´s. If you have any other question regarding the HAF, please ask!!! Regards Marcus |

Hi Guido, thank you very much! Regarding the Puma, do you mean picture Nr. 10? That is a, under licence in Romania by IAR constructed, Romanian Air Force Puma. Romania has a very long tradition in designing and building of military aircrafts and helicopters. As of 1996, IAR with the help of Elbit, begun with the manufactoring of a armed version of the standard Puma transport helicopter. Until now, about 24 have been produced for the Romanian Air Force. The new desination is IAR330L SOCAT. It is in use, as a antitank helicopter. The main weapons are 1x20 mm gun, under the nose, unguided rockets and 8xRafael Spike-ER antitank guided missiles from Israel. Currently, the SOCAT version of the IAR330L Puma is used only by the Romanian Air Force. I believe, that the transport version is also used by your country. Can someone confirm this? If you have any other question, just ask! ![]() |
